University Heights Leads In OWI Cases

In the long road to graduation, many college students are finding out the hard way just how tough the legal system can be on their old habits of partying hard.

As an Iowa OWI lawyer I see many cases of ordinarily well meaning students who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Judges have little sympathy for what they believe are large infractions.

In many states, it is often better to refuse the field sobriety tests than to take them. They will revoke your license for a year, however you will not have a criminal record. This is not to be taken as legal advice, and you should get in touch with an OWI lawyer, as laws vary from state to state.

A quick look at the Iowa City newspaper, the Daily Iowan, shows that many are being pulled over for OWI. And often times they are pulled over for small infractions such as the lack of license plate illumination or a malfunctioning tail light.

Take this as a warning: If you are in a college town, stay vigilant.
